Overview
Tauri WoW is an independent MMORPG project founded in 2009 in Hungary that became a legend among WoW projects thanks to the unmatched quality of its Mists of Pandaria (MoP) emulation. For more than a decade the Tauri team developed its own server core, reaching a level of scripting that many experts consider the closest to the original Blizzard realms.
Tauri WoW began as a local Hungarian project but gradually earned an international reputation. In 2022 the team merged with the Apollo project to create Stormforge, yet Tauri WoW lives on as a brand and project, keeping its historic place in the WoW emulation community.
History
Tauri WoW was founded in 2009 by a group of Hungarian enthusiasts. The project originally ran on the Wrath of the Lich King expansion and targeted a strictly Hungarian audience. Many WoW projects existed back then, and Tauri did not stand out from the crowd.
The turning point came with the move to Mists of Pandaria. The team made a strategic decision: instead of using off-the-shelf server cores (TrinityCore, CMaNGOS), they built their own from scratch. It demanded an enormous amount of work, but it unlocked a level of emulation impossible to reach on standard cores.
Between 2013 and 2016 Tauri WoW rolled out MoP content step by step. Raids opened progressively, and every boss was carefully tested and polished. The scripting quality of Throne of Thunder and Siege of Orgrimmar caught the attention of the international WoW community, and Tauri started building a reputation beyond Hungary.
In 2017 the international Evermoon realm launched with English as its main language, dramatically widening the project's audience. Players from around the world finally had access to what many called "the best MoP server in history." The population of the international realm grew steadily.
In 2022 came the merger with the Apollo team and the creation of Stormforge. The move concentrated the expertise of the two best MoP teams in a single project. Tauri WoW lives on as a historic brand, and its work forms the foundation of Stormforge.
Gameplay
Gameplay on Tauri WoW is a benchmark recreation of the Mists of Pandaria experience. Leveling from 1 to 90 runs through every original zone with quests, scripts and events working correctly. Cutscenes, zone phasing and scenarios are all implemented to the highest standard.
PvE content is the project's undeniable strength. MoP raids on Tauri are considered the gold standard:

The PvP side is implemented well too. Arenas, battlegrounds and rated battlegrounds all work correctly, and PvP balance matches patch 5.4.8. Even so, the PvP crowd on Tauri has always been smaller than the PvE crowd, reflecting the project's overall focus.
Content outside raids is just as carefully built: Pet Battles, farming on Sunsong Ranch, scenarios and Challenge Modes — all of these MoP systems function on Tauri.
Features
A custom server core is the main technical feature of Tauri WoW. Unlike the vast majority of WoW projects, which run forks of open-source cores, Tauri built its own solution optimized specifically for MoP emulation. That made it possible to implement complex mechanics that are impossible or extremely difficult on standard cores.
The level of scripting detail on Tauri WoW is unmatched. Beyond correct boss mechanics, it covers mob patrols in dungeons, random open-world events, correct zone phasing, seasonal world bosses and a reputation system with every daily quest.
A progressive content model was a key element of the project throughout its history. Raids opened in chronological order, recreating the original MoP progression experience. Each content tier stayed relevant for several months, which fueled raiding activity and guild competition.
Tauri WoW kept a conservative policy toward its in-game shop. Purchases were limited mostly to cosmetic items and services. Gear that affects progression was never sold, which kept PvE competition fair.
Tauri WoW's contribution to the WoW emulation ecosystem reaches beyond the project itself. Many of the technical solutions and approaches the Tauri team developed shaped MoP emulation as a whole. The project became a reference point that other MoP projects measure themselves against.
Community
The Tauri WoW community has historically been split in two: Hungarian and international. The Hungarian realm (Tauri) was the backbone of the project for many years, and the Hungarian community is known for its loyalty and cohesion. The international realm (Evermoon) drew an English-speaking audience from around the world.
The project's PvE focus shaped the character of the community: raiding guilds played the central role, and races for server-first raid clears were the headline events. The level of raiding guilds on Tauri was considered among the highest of any WoW project.
The official Discord server and forum served as the main hubs for discussion. Developers took an active part in conversations, answered questions and accepted bug reports. That openness was unusual for WoW projects and was well received by the community.
After Stormforge launched, a large part of the Tauri community migrated to the new project. Even so, Tauri WoW keeps its historic significance and is still cited as the benchmark for MoP emulation quality. Many of the players who moved to Stormforge are Tauri WoW veterans.
