Overview
MasterWork (official site mw2.global) is a flagship unofficial Lineage 2 server on the High Five chronicles, built by the E-Global team. The project pitches itself as a recreation of "the best era of Lineage 2 โ from 2003 to 2011," tuned for a modern audience. Launched in 2020, by 2026 it had grown into one of the most populated Russian-speaking Lineage 2 servers, with a claimed 6,000-8,000 players at peak. It is an unofficial server, made by an independent team rather than the rights holder NCSoft.
E-Global Ecosystem
E-Global is a development group specializing in Lineage 2 servers. The E-Global ecosystem includes:
- MasterWork โ the main live server on High Five.
- Lu4 (lu4.org) โ an ambitious project porting Lineage 2 to Unreal Engine 5, announced in 2024 together with the MasterWork team; the first alpha was slated for June 2025.
MasterWork is therefore more than a single game world โ it is also the player base for a future move to Lu4. E-Global runs servers in several languages: Russian, Ukrainian and English, making the project accessible to a broad CIS and Eastern European audience.
Chronicles & Seasonal Model
MasterWork runs on the High Five chronicles โ one of the final eras of classic Lineage 2, with the full set of classes, zones and content up to S84-grade. Its defining feature is seasonal progression:
- Each season lasts about 7.5 months and takes you the full journey from NoGrade to S84.
- Rates are dynamic โ high at launch (around x30), then they ease down gradually as the community's average level rises.
- Every season patch note opens new trade flows and unlocks the next layer of the economy.
- Content includes reworked farming zones from level 20 to 70, Raid Bosses (RB), Grand Bosses and castle sieges.
Features
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Spheres | A custom resource dropped by bosses; lets you make items "rare" and trade them on the market. |
| Reworked leveling zones | Most level 20-70 zones are tuned for both solo players and groups. |
| Recruiting system | An in-game board for finding a party or a clan. |
| Tutorial alerts | Notifications at key progression levels. |
| Classic PvP | Olympiad, castle sieges and territory wars. |
| Access model | Free-to-Play. |
Move to Lu4
In 2024, E-Global and the MasterWork team announced Lu4 (Liberta Ultimata 4, lu4.org) โ a port of classic Lineage 2 to the Unreal Engine 5 engine, keeping High Five gameplay intact. By the developers' design, MasterWork is the "predecessor" to Lu4: the server's audience is meant to form the core of the new project. The first Lu4 alpha on UE5 was planned for June 2025. For more, see the Lu4 (Luch) page.
Criticism
MasterWork is an unofficial server, not affiliated with the game's publisher NCSoft, so the usual caveats for the whole unofficial Lineage 2 segment apply. The publisher gives no guarantees on the safety of characters, progress or payments. The seasonal model means regular wipes between launches: all character progress is reset with every new season. The advertised online figures (20,000+ in promo materials) diverge sharply from independent ranking sites and deserve a cautious read. As on any unofficial server, the final experience depends on the stability of a given season and its monetization policy.
Alternatives
If you want a non-seasonal server without wipes โ a stable, long-running MMORPG project with years of history, a large online and a single ecosystem with no restarts โ take a look at Scryde, running since 2015 with millions of accounts and several servers at different rates and no wipes. You can compare projects side by side in the comparison table.
