Overview

Abyss is an independent Lineage 2 project running on the Essence chronicle. The project's main site is l2abyss.com. It positions itself as a long-term server: the focus is on stable infrastructure, an anti-bot protection system and responsive support through Discord tickets. Besides l2abyss.com, there was a separate project called The Abyss (la2.theabyss.ru) running on the High Five chronicle with x3 EXP/SP and x1 Adena rates. According to ranking sites, that server ran for more than four years; it was later merged with the OverWorld project. The two projects are not affiliated — they are separate teams with different technical foundations.

History

The l2abyss.com project traces its history back to 2021. The first server opened on January 29, 2021 — one of the early Essence-oriented openings in the Russian-speaking Lineage 2 segment. The Essence chronicle was only beginning to gain traction among independent projects at the time, while most competitors were running Interlude or High Five.

In the following years the team ran regular seasonal restarts. Among the iterations recorded by aggregators are servers with x1, x3, x5, x7 and x15 rates on the Essence chronicle. Restarts with refreshed settings are standard practice for Essence projects: they help retain an audience by attracting both new players and veterans of previous seasons.

In December 2024 a season opened with x3 EXP/SP rates on the Essence chronicle. According to L2HopZone and TopServers200, the server announced an online population above 3,000 active players at launch. Another season was recorded in October 2025.

The Abyss (theabyss.ru) — formally a separate project — appeared earlier and bet on a hardcore version of the High Five chronicle with low rates. The core mechanics of l2abyss.com are based on the Lineage 2 Essence chronicle — a modified version of Lineage 2 focused on accelerated progression, automated farming and self-sufficient classes. Unlike the classic chronicles (Interlude, High Five), Essence features auto-hunting, simplified class chains and much faster character development.

The Abyss (theabyss.ru) project, on the High Five Part 5 chronicle, followed a different philosophy — low rates (x3 EXP/SP, x1 Adena), strict client limits and a long cycle without restarts. That is closer to the model of long-term low-rate servers built for a steady, persistent audience.

Community

The main communication channels for l2abyss.com are Discord and Telegram. In-game event notifications (sieges, world trade) are integrated with Discord and Telegram through bots. Support is handled through a ticket system in Discord, which is standard practice for Russian-speaking Essence projects of 2022–2025.
