Overview

Lineage 2M is a mobile MMORPG by NCSoft and a direct continuation of the classic Lineage 2. It is not a licensed spin-off or a third-party project — it was built by the same Korean studio that shipped the original in 2003. The Korean release landed on November 27, 2019; the global launch for North America, Europe, and several other regions followed on December 2, 2021, with localization into English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, and Polish.

The game runs on Android, iOS, and PC via the NC PURPLE client — NCSoft's crossplay platform. The monetization model is Free-to-Play with an in-game shop and an optional Aden Pass subscription.

Lineage 2M is positioned as a large-scale mobile MMORPG with a loading-free open world, sieges involving thousands of players, and graphics up to 4K UHD. NCSoft calls it the most technically ambitious mobile title in the Lineage series.

Technology & Gameplay

The key technical feature of Lineage 2M is its seamless open world. Zone transitions happen without loading screens: the world is a single continuous space, like a PC MMORPG, rather than being split into instances the way most mobile games in the genre are.

Combat scale is the headline number: up to 10,000 players can fight in a single battle without frame-rate drops. Castle sieges — the central PvP mode — directly inherit the mechanics of the original Lineage 2, where controlling a castle gave a clan economic leverage over the entire server.

Graphically, the game runs at up to 4K UHD on supported devices: detailed armor, skill animations, and dynamic lighting. At launch this was a rare fidelity level for a mobile MMORPG.

Auto-Hunt is built in as a standard feature: your character uses skills, applies consumables, and moves around the zone without input. The mechanic is carried over from Lineage 2 Essence and adapted to the mobile format, accounting for the fact that you can't leave a phone charging with the game running indefinitely.

The core loop — leveling by grinding mobs, the clan system, sieges, the player market, crafting — recreates the spirit of the original. The server economy drives the price of materials and gear, and PvP has consequences: dying in the open world can mean dropping items.

PC Crossplay via NC PURPLE

NC PURPLE is NCSoft's own platform for running the company's mobile games on PC. For Lineage 2M this is full crossplay, not just an emulator: one account, one character, one progression — whether you play on a phone or at a desktop.

When you switch devices, the session syncs automatically. PURPLE offers Remote Play (mirroring the mobile session on PC) and a native mode optimized for keyboard and mouse. On PC the game renders at your monitor's resolution with improved detail.

The NC PURPLE client is free; you can download it from the official site at purple.naeu.plaync.com. Access requires an NCSoft account — the same one used for the mobile version.

Classes & Races

At global launch, Lineage 2M offered 5 races: Human, Elf, Dark Elf, Orc, and Dwarf — the same lineup as the original Lineage 2. Each race has its own passive stats and starting classes.

The class system is built around weapon type: six weapon categories (sword, dual blades, dagger, bow, staff, and orb) define a character's combat style. In total there are more than 31 classes. This differs from classic Lineage 2, where class chains were tied to race and class-transfer quests.

The classes cover the familiar archetypes: melee (fighters and swordsmen), ranged (archers), magic (elemental nukers), and support. Class synergy in a party still matters: healers and buffers remain in demand for raids and sieges.

Lineage 2M vs Lineage 2: Revolution

There are two fundamentally different mobile games set in the Lineage 2 universe, and players often confuse them.

Lineage 2: Revolution was developed by Netmarble Neo and released in 2017. It is a licensed game from a third-party studio, built on NCSoft's IP but not by NCSoft itself. Revolution targets a broader, more casual audience; the gameplay is noticeably simpler and more streamlined, with a heavier emphasis on auto-play.

Lineage 2M was developed by NCSoft itself and released in 2019. It is the official mobile continuation from the authors of the original. That is why it preserves the economic depth, siege mechanics, class system, and overall spirit of the original Lineage 2. The developer treats 2M as the canonical evolution of the franchise on mobile platforms.

Lineage 2M vs PC Lineage 2

Despite the shared universe, PC Lineage 2 and Lineage 2M are games with very different philosophies.

The PC version — and especially its hardcore flavors like Classic and early chronicles such as Interlude — demanded active play: grinding required attention, death cost XP and items, and a party was a necessity rather than an option. Progress was slow and demanding.

Lineage 2M adapts that world to a mobile format: auto-hunt, faster progression, one-finger controls. The scale of sieges and the open world are preserved, but the pace is fundamentally different. This isn't "Lineage 2 in your pocket" in the sense veterans mean — it's a standalone mobile game inspired by the universe.

For players who want a classic PC experience without mobile auto-hunt and the monetization typical of mobile games, the standalone PC servers are worth a look — for example, Scryde positions itself as a standalone game in the spirit of classic Lineage 2 with an 11-year history.

How to Download & System Requirements

Android: Google Play Store — search "Lineage2M" or use the direct link from the official site. Requirements: Android 5.0+, at least 3 GB RAM (4 GB+ recommended), and a Snapdragon 835 / Exynos 8895-class chip or better. For stable 4K mode, you'll want a flagship device.

iOS: App Store, the "Lineage2M" app. Requirements: iPhone 7 or newer, iOS 12.0+. For a comfortable experience, an iPhone XS/11 or above.

PC (NC PURPLE): the client downloads from purple.naeu.plaync.com. Minimum requirements: Windows 8.1 (64-bit), an Intel Core i5 (2nd gen) or AMD FX-4300, 8 GB RAM, a DirectX 11 GPU (GTX 960 or equivalent), and 30 GB of free space.

Regions and availability: the game launched in 29 countries. Russia is included in the global release, with Russian-language support. Several Asian regions run separate NCSoft servers. Due to regional store restrictions, you may need to switch your Google/Apple account region to install.

Criticism

Lineage 2M earned high marks for its scale and technical execution, but the audience raised several systemic concerns.

Monetization. A Free-to-Play model with a shop that affects progression is standard for Korean mobile MMORPGs. Many players see the system as pay-to-win: without spending, it's hard to compete with paying players in top-end PvP content. Gachapon mechanics (random items from loot boxes) are also present.

Auto-play. Where the PC version introduced auto-hunt as a concession to an older audience (Essence), in a mobile context it reads differently: you spend much of your time watching the screen rather than playing. Some fans of the original see this as a change to the very nature of Lineage 2.

Battery and heat. A graphically demanding game in 4K mode drains the battery fast and heats up the device. Long auto-hunt sessions essentially require it to be plugged in.

Competition within the series. Having Lineage M, Lineage 2M, Lineage 2: Revolution, and PC Lineage 2 all on the market at once fragments the audience. New players struggle to figure out which game to pick, which breeds confusion and disappointment from choosing the wrong one.
