TL;DR: The attribute system is an endgame mechanic that adds elemental damage to weapons and elemental defense to armor. There are six elements in three opposing pairs (Fire/Water, Wind/Earth, Holy/Dark). A 100+ attribute gap swings damage by 30-50%, so at level 76+ attributes often matter more than enchant level.

Attribute System Basics

The attribute system is an endgame mechanic that lets you charge weapons and armor with elemental energy. You add elemental damage to a weapon and elemental defense to armor. From level 76+, this system defines your effectiveness in both PvP and PvE.

You apply attributes using special stones that drop from high-level monsters. For enchanting and other ways to power up your gear, see the dedicated guide.

Elements & Counters

There are six elements that form three opposing pairs:

FireWaterWater-weak targets
WaterFireFire-weak targets
WindEarthEarth-weak targets
EarthWindWind-weak targets
HolyDarkDark-weak / undead targets
DarkHolyHoly-weak targets

Attacking with an element deals extra damage to targets with low defense against it. A Fire-attribute weapon hits especially hard against monsters that are weak to fire. Match your attribute to the content: for PvE, tune your element to the monsters in Primeval Isle or other endgame zones. For PvP, the "Fire attack, Fire defense" combo is popular because fire mages like the Sorcerer are the most common opponents.

Adding Attributes to Gear

You raise a weapon's attribute with stones up to a fixed cap. Each stone adds +5 to the attribute with a given success chance. On a failed attempt the item is not destroyed (unlike enchanting), but you lose the stone.

Armor only takes a defensive attribute โ€” the one opposite to the attacking element. Each armor piece (helmet, chest, legs and so on) is upgraded separately. For maximum protection, put the same attribute into every piece of the set. For more on gear, read the full equipment guide.

Using Attributes in PvP & PvE

In PvP, attributes decide fights. A gap of 100+ points raises your damage by 30-50%. On the Olympiad, gear attributes are active, so well-attributed equipment gives you a clear edge. In PvE, the right attribute is critical against Valakas and Antharas โ€” these Grand Bosses have specific weaknesses. Spending Adena on attributes is one of the best endgame investments you can make.
