TL;DR: A Soul Crystal lets you add a permanent Special Ability (SA) to a B-grade or higher weapon. Drop a Stage 1 crystal, level it on special mobs (it can break), then take it to the Blacksmith of Mammon with gemstones to slot an SA. Pick Focus or Haste for melee, Critical Damage for archers, Acumen for mages.

How the SA System Works

The Special Ability (SA) system lets you add a unique bonus to any B-grade or higher weapon through a Soul Crystal. Every eligible weapon has one SA slot that grants a permanent passive effect: extra critical damage, faster attack speed, a stun chance and more.

In terms of impact, SA sits right alongside enchanting and augmentation. The right SA choice can dramatically change how effective your class feels.

Getting a Soul Crystal

Soul Crystals drop from specific monsters while the related quest is active. Farm your basic crystal (Stage 1) in Cruma Tower, Ant Nest and similar zones, then level it up to the stage your weapon grade requires.

Crystals come in three colors. Match the color to your class:

Leveling a Crystal

You level a Soul Crystal by killing special mobs with the crystal in your inventory. Each higher stage requires a stronger monster. The process is risky: on a failed level-up the crystal can either break completely or drop one stage.

For Stage 13+ you will have to kill Raid Bosses (RB), which means a party and coordination. If your Adena budget allows, buy ready-made high-stage crystals on the market in Giran instead.

Adding SA to a Weapon

Visit the Blacksmith of Mammon, a special NPC who appears in different locations depending on the Seven Signs state. You will need the weapon, a Soul Crystal of the correct stage and gemstones.

Each weapon supports specific SA types. For example, an A-grade weapon can take Focus (crit rate), Haste (attack speed) or Health (HP). Choose the SA that fits your playstyle. For the full gear picture, see the equipment guide.

Heading to the Olympiad? Remember that SA works on the arena too, so the right choice can hand you a decisive edge in the matchup.

Common Soul Crystal Mistakes

The most expensive mistake is leveling a crystal to the cap with no backup. It can break at any stage, and losing a Stage 10+ crystal is a serious hit to your budget. Keep spare crystals or enough Adena to buy a replacement on the market.

The second mistake is choosing an SA without thinking about your future gear. Planning to move to a higher-grade weapon? Make sure the SA you want is available on that new weapon. Not all SA types exist on every weapon type, so check the list ahead of time with the Blacksmith of Mammon. And remember: slotting an SA costs gemstones, which can add up fast. Plan your budget in advance.
