TL;DR: Whisper of Dreams is the auto-starting tutorial quest for every race at level 1. Talk to the Newbie Helper, kill a few mobs near your village, and return for starter gear, Soulshots/Spiritshots, potions and enough XP for 2-3 levels. It takes 5-10 minutes.

Overview

Whisper of Dreams is your starter quest, introducing the core mechanics of the game. It is available to every race from level 1. You earn your first gear and XP, and the quest walks you through the basics of the interface and gameplay.

Walkthrough

The quest triggers automatically when you create a character. Talk to the Newbie Helper in your starting village โ€” he explains the controls, skills and inventory. Then kill a few mobs near the village: wolves, gremlins or keltirs depending on your race. After that, return to the NPC to claim your reward. Each race has its own starting zone:

RaceStarting Zone
HumanTalking Island
ElfElven Village
Dark ElfDark Elven Village
OrcOrc Village
DwarfDwarven Village

The quest structure is the same for everyone, but the NPCs and mobs are unique to each race. Starter quests use standard mechanics, so you'll finish in 5-10 minutes.

Rewards

On completion you receive a basic weapon for your class (sword, bow, staff or knuckles), Soulshots/Spiritshots for the early levels, healing potions and a little Adena. The XP pushes you up 2-3 levels. You also get a Moon Armor Set (or an equivalent starter set) that lasts until level 15-20.

Beginner Tips

Don't skip the dialogue with the Newbie Helper โ€” it covers a lot of useful mechanics. For a full new-player rundown, see the beginner's guide. After the starter quest, find the Newbie Guide (an NPC in the village) โ€” he gives you buffs until level 25. Activate your Soulshots right away and mobs will drop much faster. From there, keep running quests in your starting zone โ€” they hand out gear and XP to prepare you for the 1st class transfer at level 20. For a detailed leveling plan, see the leveling guide.
