TL;DR: The best PvP class depends on the fight. Mass PvP and sieges favor AoE control mages (Sorcerer, Spellsinger) and frontline tanks; 1v1 duels favor burst fighters like the Tyrant and Abyss Walker; the Olympiad rewards classes with strong baseline mechanics (Tyrant, Frenzy Destroyer). Pick your role first, then optimize gear.

Types of PvP

PvP in Lineage 2 comes in many flavors. Mass PvP (sieges, clan wars) rewards one set of classes, while duels and the Olympiad reward another. Decide which content you want before you pick a class. For the fundamentals, see the PvP guide.

Keep the karma system in mind. Aggressive PvP without a declared war gives you PK status with serious penalties.

Best Classes for Mass PvP

Sieges and clan wars are dominated by classes with AoE crowd control. The Sorcerer and Spellsinger disable entire groups with area spells. The Sword Singer and Blade Dancer empower allies with auras.

ClassRoleWhat it brings
SorcererAoE nuker / controlMass nukes and crowd control that break enemy formations.
SpellsingerAoE nuker / controlArea spells that lock down clustered targets.
Paladin / Dark AvengerFrontline tankMass aggro and stun to hold the front line.
BishopHealerKeeps the party alive through sustained healing.

Tanks (Paladin, Dark Avenger) hold the front line with mass taunts and stuns, while the Bishop keeps the group alive.

Best Classes for 1v1

Duels are won by classes with burst damage and control. The Tyrant is one of the strongest 1v1 fighters โ€” its Force-skill combo kills fast. The Abyss Walker opens from stealth with Backstab and deletes a target instantly.

The Hawkeye dominates at range โ€” high critical damage drops an opponent before they ever close the gap. Mages like the Spellhowler are devastating against light-armored targets.

Best Classes for Olympiad

The Olympiad plays by different rules: gear is capped and buffs are stripped. Classes with strong baseline mechanics win. The Tyrant, a Frenzy-build Destroyer (Frenzy) and control mages post the best results. Heroes earn unique weapons and status. For more, see the equipment guide.

PvP Gear & Enchanting

PvP gear differs from PvE gear. Fighters want a high-P.Atk weapon and armor with CP (Combat Points) and HP bonuses. CP absorbs damage first, so the more CP you stack, the longer you survive.

Mages live and die by casting speed and M.Atk. PvP is decided in seconds: if you land a spell half a second before your opponent, that often decides the fight. Take a weapon with the Acumen SA and a robe set that boosts M.Atk.

Jewelry carries enormous weight โ€” stun-resist earrings, HP rings, and necklaces with magic defense. For the Olympiad, jewelry matters even more because of the gear caps.

Enchanting a weapon above +3 grants bonus damage. It's risky (the item breaks on a failed enchant), but in PvP every point of damage counts. Start with your weapon, then move to armor, and spend your Adena wisely.

PvP Tactics

Distance control is the foundation of PvP. Mages and archers (Hawkeye) keep enemies at range; fighters close the gap. Use the terrain โ€” attack from high ground and break line of sight behind buildings against ranged attackers.

Target priority is the key skill in mass PvP. In sieges and clan wars, drop the healers (Bishop) first, then the buffers (Prophet, Sword Singer), and only then the damage dealers. Without support, an enemy group collapses in seconds.

Stack debuffs before your main attack. Lowering a target's defense dramatically increases your damage. Chaining crowd control (stun, root, silence) into burst damage is the most reliable way to secure a kill.

In open PvP, remember the karma system. Killing without a declared war gives you PK status, and a PK character drops items on death. Declare clan wars or use the Olympiad for safe PvP.
