Overview
Fishing in Lineage 2 is a mini-game where you reel in fish and trade them for valuable items. It unlocks at level 20 after a short quest from the Fisherman Guild Manager. It's one of the best ways to earn passive Adena: fish while you wait for a party or stand AFK. From your gear and consumables, all you really need is a lure.
Fishing Rod Quest
The Fisherman Guild Manager stands in most major towns (Giran, Aden, Goddard and others). Talk to them and choose the "Get a fishing rod" option. Run through a few dialogue lines and you'll receive:
- A basic Fishing Rod โ free
- A starter set of Lures โ for your first casts
The quest takes a couple of minutes and requires no combat.
Rods & Lures
Fishing rods come in grades โ each higher grade strengthens your Pumping and Reeling skills:
| Rod | How to get it | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Fishing Rod | Free from the quest | Entry-level, fine for normal fish |
| D-grade to S-grade rods | Buy from the Fisherman Guild Manager for Fishing Stew | Easier mini-game, better chance at rare fish |
Better rods make the mini-game noticeably easier and open up the chance to catch rare fish.
Your Lure determines the type of catch you reel in:
| Lure | Catch | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Green Lure | Common fish | Low rewards, cheap to buy |
| Yellow Lure | Mid-tier fish | Balance of price and rewards |
| Purple Lure | Rare fish | Best rewards |
| Special lure | Treasure Chest Fish | The most valuable catch in the game |
Buy lures from the Fisherman Guild or a Grocer.
Mini-Game Mechanics
How to fish:
- Equip a rod in your weapon slot and a lure
- Stand next to any body of water (river, lake or sea)
- Use the Fishing skill โ your character casts the line
- When a fish bites, the mini-game begins
In the mini-game you alternate between two skills:
| Skill | When to use it |
|---|---|
| Pumping | Spam it more for certain fish types |
| Reeling | Spam it more for the other fish types |
Each fish has an HP bar. Drain it to zero and the fish is yours. If your stamina runs out first, the fish escapes. An upgraded rod makes this far easier. Fishing consumes MP, but you don't need Soulshots.
Best Fishing Spots
You can fish at any body of water, but some locations yield a better catch:
| Location | Why fish here |
|---|---|
| Talking Island coast | Ideal starter spot |
| Lake near Giran | Convenient spot with good fish quality |
| Oren & Goddard | Rare high-level fish species |
Travel between locations using a Gatekeeper.
Rewards & Trading Fish
Bring your catch back to the Fisherman Guild Manager. Here's what each type trades for:
| Fish type | Reward |
|---|---|
| Common fish | Fishing Stew (used to buy upgraded rods and lures) |
| Rare fish | Codex of Giant (needed to learn level 76+ skills โ extremely valuable), crafting components and high-tier potions |
| Treasure Chest Fish | Random reward, from potions up to a Blessed Enchant Scroll |
Some fish are used to craft elixirs. The exact trade list can vary between servers and may include custom items, so always check the current options at the NPC.
Tips
- Start fishing early โ even at level 20 it pays out useful materials
- Bank Fishing Stew using a Green Lure, then buy an upgraded rod
- Once you have a C-grade rod, switch to Yellow/Purple Lures for better rewards
- Fish while you wait for a party โ passive income beats standing idle
- Treasure Chest Fish is your main goal, but it needs a special lure
- Fishing is one of the few reliable ways to farm Codex of Giant
