TL;DR: The subclass quest unlocks a second class on the same character. You need a level 75 main with the 2nd class transfer done, plus a free slot (3 total). Run the quest from Hierarch Asterios, clear the catacomb and Necropolis stages, then pick your sub โ€” it starts at level 40 and grants certificates once it hits 75+.

Overview

The subclass quest is one of the key quests in Lineage 2. Complete it and you unlock a second class on the same character. You can learn another class's skills and switch between them while keeping your main's level. Up to 3 subclasses are available. For the switching mechanic, see the subclass system article.

Requirements

What you need to unlock a subclass:

  • A main class at level 75+
  • A completed 2nd class transfer (the 3rd is not required)
  • A free subclass slot (3 slots total)
  • A preliminary quest tied to the Seven Signs system

The Noblesse quest is not required for a subclass. You cannot pick a subclass from the same class tree as your main where server rules restrict it. Stock up on Adena for teleports โ€” the quest takes you across different parts of the world.

Quest Walkthrough

Start at the NPC Hierarch Asterios in the town of Aden.

Step 1: Talk to Hierarch Asterios and accept the task. Head to the Ivory Tower and speak with the mages.

Step 2: Clear the trial in the catacombs โ€” kill the required monsters and collect the quest items. Bring a party, as the mobs inside hit hard. Buffs from an NPC Buffer or a Prophet are essential.

Step 3: Visit the Necropolis and perform the ritual. In Classic, the subclass required killing 5 Raid Bosses from a set list and collecting an item from each. On many servers this list is shortened or the items can be obtained an alternate way.

Final step: Return to Hierarch Asterios and choose your subclass.

Choosing a Subclass

Pick a subclass that complements your main. Restrictions: a sub cannot match your main and is limited by class-tree rules (you can't combine classes from the same development tree). You'll see the list of available subclasses at the Grand Master. On some servers the restrictions on subclass choice are looser than in Classic.

Before you decide, check the class tier list. Popular combinations:

Main classSubclass pickWhy
DD (fighter/nuker)Buffer (Prophet / Warcryer)Self-buffing for solo play.
MageFighter subFlexible farming across different situations.
TankDD subBetter solo activity and self-sufficiency.
SupportDD (Tyrant / Sorcerer)Independent farming and Adena income.

You can swap a subclass, but you'll lose the progress and run the quest again.

Rewards

You gain access to a subclass of your choice. Each sub starts at level 40 and is leveled separately โ€” for fast-leveling tips, see the leveling guide. Once a subclass reaches 75+, you earn subclass certificates โ€” extra passive skills for your main class (HP, MP, speed, resistances). Certificates are one of the main payoffs of a developed subclass. At subclass level 65 the Noblesse quest opens โ€” a mandatory milestone for endgame. A subclass at 75+ also lets you take the 3rd class transfer.

Tips & Recommendations

  • Take a first subclass that helps your main (for example, a Prophet for self-buffs).
  • Level your subclass in a party โ€” details in the party system article.
  • Don't delete a subclass without a reason โ€” you'll lose all the progress.
  • Where re-classing is available, you can swap a subclass without losing its level, but it costs resources.
  • Plan your subclasses ahead: three slots isn't much, so each should work for you.
  • Use the same gear you'd run for a main of the same type.
  • NPC Buffer buffs matter most while leveling a sub โ€” your current gear may not suit the new class.
