TL;DR: The Sorcerer is the best AoE mage โ€” fire nukes clear packs in 2โ€“3 casts. The Destroyer leads physical AoE with Whirlwind. AoE farming is the fastest way to gain XP and Adena from level 40+, but it demands strong gear, a Blessed Spiritshot stockpile and healer support to stay alive.

What Is AoE Farming

AoE farming (Area of Effect) means pulling a large mob pack and wiping it with mass nukes. It is the fastest way to gain XP and Adena, but it needs good gear, consumables and an understanding of the mechanics. For how XP is shared, see the experience system guide.

Magic AoE Classes

ClassElementWhy it works for AoE
SorcererFireThe best AoE mage. Fire mass nukes wipe a pack in 2โ€“3 casts. Needs a deep Blessed Spiritshot stockpile and a healer.
SpellsingerWaterElven mage with water AoE and built-in crowd control. Safer than the Sorcerer thanks to slow effects; slightly lower damage, easier to manage.
NecromancerDarkDark mage with a unique mechanic โ€” Corpse Burst detonates mob corpses for AoE damage. Economical, but takes a specific playstyle.

Physical AoE Classes

ClassKey skillNotes
DestroyerWhirlwindHits every enemy around you. Paired with Frenzy it puts out huge AoE damage. You must manage your HP and grab buffs from a Prophet.
TyrantHurricaneMainly a single-target DD, but Hurricane works well for quickly farming small packs.

Best AoE Spots

Look for spots with high mob density and fast respawn. At mid levels, Cruma Tower is ideal with its tight rooms. The Catacombs (Catacomb of Dark Omens) suit level 50โ€“60 mages perfectly. At high levels, Primeval Isle rewards well-geared parties. Travel between them via Gatekeepers.

Gear for AoE Farming

For magic AoE you want casting speed and M.Atk. Take a weapon with a casting speed bonus โ€” the faster you kill a pack, the less damage you take. Robes with M.Def bonuses help you survive the hits from a pulled group.

Slot / statMagic AoE (Sorcerer)Physical AoE (Destroyer)
WeaponHigh M.Atk + casting speedHigh P.Atk
ArmorRobe set with M.Def / casting speedHeavy armor with HP bonuses
JewelryMP bonuses for long sessionsHP bonuses (Frenzy drains your HP)
ShotsBlessed Spiritshots (BSpS)Soulshots (SS)

MP jewelry is mandatory for long farm sessions. Without it you'll constantly sit to regen or burn expensive MP potions. A full B-grade robe set is a serious M.Atk boost.

For physical AoE on the Destroyer, prioritize a high-P.Atk weapon and HP-bonus armor. Frenzy drops your HP to a critical level, so every point counts. Soulshots are mandatory.

Don't cut corners on Blessed Spiritshots. Plain Spiritshots give a smaller damage bonus, so the pack dies slower and you take more hits. Do the math on your Adena burn: AoE farming is only profitable when mob income beats your consumable costs.

Common AoE Mistakes

The biggest mistake is pulling too many mobs. Start with 3โ€“4 monsters and scale up as your gear improves. One greedy death wipes all the XP you just earned.

The second mistake is farming without a healer at dangerous spots. In the Catacombs and on Primeval Isle, mobs hit hard. Solo AoE there only works with top-tier gear. Find a Bishop or Elder for backup.

Watch your aggro. If you lose part of the pack, they'll run to your healer and kill them. Use mass skills to hold aggro. Don't stand on the respawn point, or fresh mobs will hit you in the back.

And mind your Vitality. AoE farming burns Vitality faster than usual. Plan your sessions to make the most of the XP bonus.
